--- BOOT Killer v1.4 ---
--- Copyright (c) 1992 M.J.Matts ---
--- This program is FREEWARE ---
--- Written in GFA v3.6 ---
How many times have you booted your ST, then loaded that new program you
cannot wait to use only to find that you cannot use desktop accessories or
AUTO folder programs with it?? Well, if this has happened to you then you must
know how much of a pain it is to have to rename all your .ACC's into something
else, such as .ACX so that they will not be loaded and then rename the AUTO
foler, or its programs, aswell. If this is the case then it is no longer a
problem as BOOT Killer will do this or you.
To use BOOT Killer you must put BOOTKILL.PRG into the AUTO folder as
close to the top of your AUTO folder as possible and thats it, use an auto
folder sorting program such as AUTOSORT to do this. The next time you boot the
ST and want to 'kill' your ACC's or AUTO folder programs just press and hold
either the left shift which will disable all your AUTO folder programs, the
right shift key will disable all your ACC's and both shift keys will disable
both AUTO programs and ACC's. The next time you boot the ST BOOT Killer will
automatically rename all the .ACZ and .PRZ files into .ACC and .PRG again so
that they are reloaded. Basically BOOT Killer will only disable your programs
as long as you pressed the correct key when it was booting. Please note that
BOOT Killer will only disable AUTO programs in the AUTO folder which are
usually run after the BOOT Killer program hence the reason why it is best to
run it first from the AUTO folder.
You can force BOOT Killer to ignore certain .ACC's or PRG's by creating
a file in the root of your boot drive (usually A: or C:) called BOOTKILL.INF.
This file is simply an ASCII text file consisting of the .PRG's or ACC's to be
left as they are. BOOT Killer always ignores BOOTKILL.PRG. An example
BOOTKILL.INF file could look like..
WARP9_CP.ACC
WARP9.PRG
CONTROL.ACC
BOOT Killer has been tested on hard and floppy disks and has not yet
caused any disk corrouptions, however, If you do use BOOT Killer then you do
so at your own risk..
